If you have a “high risk foot” condition, then a little podiatry care can go a long way to ensuring your feet stay healthy for life.
Unfortunately, high risk foot conditions can lead to amputations, and many of these can be avoided. Research has shown that at least half of the amputations that occur in Australia could have been prevented by increasing the level of general care and podiatry care.

What is a high risk foot?
The term high risk foot is given to people who have a condition that increases the risk of developing complications which could lead to an amputation.
These health conditions include:
- Neuropathy – numbness in the foot and not much feeling which means if your foot is damaged you may not be aware.
- Ischaemia – poor circulation in your feet leading to delayed healing of wounds.
- Foot ulcer – an open wound on your foot caused by trauma that isn’t healed.
- A severe foot deformity – preventing blood flow and normal function.
- Diabetes – which increases the incidence of neuropathy and ischaemia.
Please see your local GP who will help you to diagnose and provide a preventive treatment plan for a high risk foot condition. We will work with your GP and other health professionals to assist with creating better health outcomes for you.
