The Australian Podiatry Association runs Foot Health Week which is an annual campaign promoting foot health awareness. Sanders Podiatry Adelaide is a member of the Australian Podiatry Association and we proudly support and promote Foot Health Week in our clinics across Adelaide.
Why promote foot health?
People will experience pain in their ankles, knees, legs and lower back and will see a chiropractor or physiotherapist. We work with and refer to many allied health practitioners from our podiatry clinic but often the problem rests with the feet so to speak!
Foot Health Week gives us an opportunity to increase awareness about how the health of our feet impacts our overall wellbeing.
If your feet are misaligned, if there are structural problems, if there is injury or pain which makes you compensate your gait (walking style), this can ripple out to the rest of your body. The symptoms can range from unexplained tiredness and fatigue, lower limb pain, back pain and hip pain.
Our wellbeing starts from the feet upwards. Our feet ground us, support us to remain upright, and take us forward in life. Any obstruction to our feet doing their job properly not only creates physical consequences, it can also impact our mental resilience.
Foot health keeps you young and active!
Think about this, your 8 year old can’t wait for you to come home from work so you can spend half hour kicking the footy at the local park before dinner time. Over the last few weeks however, your right foot is sore for no apparent reason, and you also have a niggling pain in your left knee and lower back. It’s not stopping you from working, but when you get home all you want to do is rest. A few weeks back and you would comfortably be kicking the footy after work with your kids, and everyone’s happy.
If you’re a hiker and enjoy long walks through local national parks, you’ll start saying no to walking invites with your hiking friends because of the pain in your arches. Before you know it, little by little, untreated foot problems compound and stop you from engaging in the activities you enjoy.
Good foot health is crucial to your overall health and wellbeing. We recommend regular podiatry sessions for a good dose of love and TLC – they deserve it!
